(A warm) Welcome to my website!
It is with great pleasure that I introduce my oilpaintings to you, but let me first introduce myself.
I was born in the Frisian-Groningen Wadden region and raised in the land van Maas en Waal. After spending some time as a social worker I decided (in 1992) to go in for the visual arts. I did the classical training at the Ruud Wackers academy in Amsterdam. Next I took private lessons from various artists. For a considerable period of time I did model drawing.
During my training I became fascinated by form but even more by colour and religious aspects. You will find both cultural and religious aspects in my paintings. Colour is now the major theme in my work, beside my figurative paintings.
'Light' and 'darkness' as phenomena truly fascinate me. I thus feel that I can more effectively penetrate into the process of creating, re-creating/transforming/transfiguring, of the flow of things in and out.
Oil is the only/sole I use. It is powerful, the colours are radiant and the material touches me. Oil makes me think, contemplate and thus enables me to complete the painting I am doing. Panel and canvas are the materials I work on.
